Post-18 Options: What parents need to know
All UK qualifications sit in the National Qualifications framework. GCSEs for example are Level 2, A levels are Level 3 and a Bachelors degree (BA or BSC) is Level 5 Qualification.
All modern apprenticeships are compelled to have an education provider as a partner and so you may see details of Level 2 apprenticeships or Level 5 apprenticeships.
The latter is known more commonly as Degree apprenticeships or Higher apprenticeships and partner with a University. It is possible to earn money, gain a skill and a University degree without taking the normal route or accruing huge debts.
These are harder to find than Level 2 apprenticeships but there is an increasingly large number. The national search websites listed below tend to advertise Level 2 and Level 3 with most Degree apprenticeships being advertised via the employer themselves.
These Degree apprenticeships are most common in Business, Accounting and Engineering. It is important pupils keep the careers lead in school Mr Farnell in the loop if they are interested in one of these as he will then keep them updated with new ones coming into the mix which they do all the time.
