The Donald Hughes Trust enters its next stage
Year 8 pupils in the classroom
Last term, Rydal Penrhos re-established its historic Donald Hughes Trust, which funds Fully Funded Places at the School for children who would not otherwise be able to attend, securing them an education that is truly life-changing.
Excellent teaching is an inextricable part of a Rydal Penrhos education alongside helping children discover passions that will last a lifetime and cultivating values and morals. At Rydal Penrhos, these are Methodist values of compassion, tolerance, good humour, and courage – values that are crucial for the world today.
Supporting the Donald Hughes Trust, then, is not only a way of honouring your connection with the School, but is also a way of joining together with other alumni to change today’s world.
As the Spring Campaign begins this month, our hope is that even more alumni will consider becoming part of the incredible tradition of philanthropy at Penrhos College, Rydal School, and Rydal Penrhos. Every gift – whatever the scale, and whatever the reason – makes a huge difference to the work of the Trust, helping to provide life-changing opportunities for those children who are awarded Fully Funded Places, and by helping to increase the internal diversity of the School’s pupil body, enriching Rydal Penrhos as a whole.
The Spring Campaign is also a moment to say 'thank you' to the alumni who have already supported this project or other projects. Philanthropy is a huge part of the reason that Rydal Penrhos has been able to achieve what it has over the years, and the School is beyond grateful to these benefactors.

"This Fully Funded Place means the absolute world to me, because this has given me the opportunity to go further than what was possible in my old school. It has given me the opportunity to push myself forward more, to let myself shine and given me the opportunity to have a brighter future. My mum wouldn’t have been able to put me into a great school like this without this scholarship, and it has opened up so many roads that previously weren’t available to me. I can’t express in words or actions how much this means to me, and how much it has helped me and will continue to help me and my future, but all I can say is how thankful and appreciative I am of this chance to prove myself."
