Looking Ahead
5 events from the next 5 weeks
As we venture past the midpoint of this whirlwind Lent Term, Rydal Penrhos previews five key events taking place in the five weeks leading up to Easter.
The first half of the Lent term may have been notably brief - only four weeks in total - but it was by no means less bustling than usual. Quite the contrary, as our pupils from Pre-School to Sixth Form devoted themselves wholeheartedly to their pursuits, seizing every opportunity and creating continual cause for celebration.
As we enter the second half of term, we anticipate another flurry of noteworthy developments, thanks to the talent and dedication of our pupils. Looking ahead to another exciting half term, we have selected five events that we expect to prove productive, memorable, and fun!
Faraday ChallengeWednesday 21 February
Science has always been a cornerstone of our curriculum, with our motivated students working alongside an inspiring teaching team to achieve remarkable exam success. As part of our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program, the school is thrilled to host an IET Faraday Challenge Day - an annual competition featuring a day of STEM activities that challenge students to tackle real-life engineering problems through research, design, and prototype solutions. An unmissable opportunity for Year 8 pupils to be engineers for a day.
Book FairFriday 23 to Wednesday 28 February
Strong literacy skills are fundamental to a quality education. Recognising that children who do not achieve a reading age of sixteen by their sixteenth birthday often face challenges across their GCSE subjects, Rydal Penrhos places great emphasis on literacy and literature education. The upcoming Book Fair will provide our Prep pupils with a wonderful opportunity to indulge in their love of reading.

St David’s DayFriday 1 March
Rydal Penrhos takes immense pride in its Welsh heritage and is committed to further integrating Welsh language and culture into everyday school life. Building on the success of last year’s St. David’s Day celebrations, which saw our Prep pupils parade through Colwyn Bay to St. Paul’s Church in Welsh-themed attire, this promises to be another memorable occasion.
Rydal Penrhos U18s Rugby Sevens TournamentSaturday 9 March
This day-long event will feature a minimum of twelve schools and clubs from across North Wales and the North West, converging on our historic home turf at New Field. We invite all pupils, parents, carers, alumni, and friends of the school to join us for the day. The first match kicks off at 10:00, with the final games expected to begin around 15:00. A tuck shop will be available all day.

Inter-House Cross CountryWednesday 13 March
Whether adored or dreaded, the annual Inter-House Cross Country competition is an event our pupils never overlook. In a test of endurance and determination for the glory of their respective houses, pupils will navigate our cross-country course alongside their peers. Expect fierce competition for the overall victory, as well as within various age categories. Even some of our teaching staff will join in the challenge!
