Guest Introduction

2024 is the most exciting and significant year for our Prep School since it first moved into the Pwllycrochan Hotel in 1953. In light of this, we invited Prep Middle Leaders Mrs Culver and Mrs Oliver to share a few words at this half-way point of the academic year.
"Dear Parents,
"We find ourselves at a crossroads now that we are halfway through the current academic year. As a staff, we are drawn to looking back at all the wonderful memories we have of working in the ‘White Castle on the Hill;’ yet we are also busying ourselves preparing for our exciting re-location to Old House. Slowly but surely, cupboards, resource rooms and lots of ‘hidden corners’ of the school are being organised and stripped back in readiness.
"With all this change, the views of the children remain particularly important to us, and it was lovely to tour Old House with our School Council members earlier on this month. It was great to be able to show off the site and walk down the corridor where their new classrooms will be situated. The children had a good Q&A session with Mr Hutchinson before lunch in the Senior School dining room and appeared suitably impressed with everything they saw. Indeed, we want all the pupils to be involved in the process where they can be, and to help us make decisions such as what the wall art should look like and how the house system should look. It really is a thrilling time for the Rydal Penrhos community - living history!
"As we prepare for this historic moment in our history, all the wonderful things that make our school rich and fulfilling continue on a day-to-day basis. The KS2 Inter-House Gymnastics competition took place on the last Wednesday before half term and saw children perform routines that they have been working on in their PE lessons. It’s always a lovely event as the children not only demonstrate their improving gymnastic skills but also their skills of cooperation and teamwork.
"The day afterwards, our Forest School was a hive of activity, as Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 took part in Big Schools’ Birdwatch. The children got to make bird feeders, too. A final piece of news to report is the Year 2 Inter-House Writing Competition. The children wrote poems based on the theme ‘Hope’ and after making house compilations it was judged that Pembroke’s was the best. Having said this, all the entries were amazing, and have been put forward for an ISA (Independent Schools’ Association) poetry competition.
“We hope that you have all had an enjoyable and restful half term.”
