Prep and Pre-School Relocation
Old House move approaches
Earlier this term, Rydal Penrhos Principal Mr Tom Hutchinson announced that the school’s Pre-School and Prep School will be moving to Old House for September 2024.
A historic and beautiful building, Old House will provide an ideal learning environment for our pupils.
The birthplace of our school, Old House is where Thomas Osborn first created Rydal Mount School in the 1880s, beginning the proud legacy and tradition we continue to this day.
Old House is already an extensively utilised and purpose-designed educational building, and will be majorly upgraded to fulfil the needs of our youngest pupils.
This decision to relocate to Old House was made after careful consideration and consultation with the Governing Board, as it became apparent that Old House offers many advantages over alternative locations.
Some of the many benefits of relocating to Old House are:
A dedicated entrance for the Pre and Prep School. CGI and artist's impressions of the new entrance have been commissioned and will be shared with our community very soon.
Easy access to the Carnegie Room, which will serve as the Prep School Hall for assemblies and various events.
A convenient layout, with most of the classrooms on one main floor, reducing the need for younger pupils to navigate stairs frequently.
Close proximity to the Senior Leadership Team, promoting effective communication and collaboration in the broader school community.
Free-flowing educational provision for Pre-School pupils and convenient access to our Additional Learning Needs provision if any pupils require additional support.
Nearness to the Watkinson Library, fostering a love for reading and research from an early age.
We are very excited about this change, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible for both pupils and parents. We have already begun extensive work to make the plans a reality, and this will become increasingly visible as the academic year continues.
We appreciate your support and understanding during this transition, and eagerly look forward to seeing our Pre-School and Prep pupils flourish in their new surroundings from September.
