Year 6 Into 7 Transition Day
A thrilling introduction to the Senior School!
The first Year 6 to 7 Transition Day of the term on Thursday 25 January, was brimming with excitement, learning, laughter, discovery, and new friendships.
Pupils from Rydal Penrhos School and beyond came together for a day packed with activities, offering a glimpse into Senior School life.
Mrs McDuff, our Year 7 and 8 Pastoral Lead, commenced the day with an introduction and team-building session. Following this, students delved into an immersive Science practical in our Biology labs.
Showing the keen Science interest that has seen our pupils triumph in exams and competitions, the group swiftly familiarised themselves with a diverse array of scientific equipment and materials, using them to uncover fascinating discoveries.
After the Science session, the group enjoyed an intriguing lesson courtesy of Mrs Freeman, our Chartered Teacher of History. Pupils were challenged to design their own Medieval shield, drawing inspiration from historical context.
This fun and engaging introduction to the subject showcased Mrs Freeman's talent for approaching her subject from unique and captivating perspectives. In a testament to her industry-leading approach to her craft, the Year 7 form tutor will be sharing her insights and practices with fellow teachers at the Historical Association (HA) Conference later this year.
During lunch, pupils were joined by their parents in the Senior Dining Room, where they met our Catering Manager, Mr Stubbs, and members of his friendly and helpful team. They relished a delicious Thai lunch, alongside Scottish-themed taster dishes, specially made in celebration of Burns Night.
In the afternoon, pupils divided into two groups for Art and Design Technology activities, including clay modelling and rocket launches. This provided an opportunity to explore the subjects’ inspiring studio spaces, equipped with advanced technology like 3D printers, laser cutters, photography suites and a computer lab.
The day concluded with pupils sampling an hour-long extracurricular session, highlighting the diverse range of clubs and activities available to them throughout the week.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Transition Day. We look forward to many more transition events ahead of September!
