Prep pupils investigate key topics
Year 1 Stage Baptism
This term, Year 1 have been studying the topic of ‘Belonging’ in their RS lessons. They have learnt what it means to belong and how Christians belong to the Christian Church.
They invited Rev'd Beamish to lead a baptism service in the classroom, where he explained that people are baptised to welcome them into a family and the Christian Church. The children had chosen the name Amy Rosie for the baby and they took part in the service as the parents, Godparents and the congregation.
Rev'd Beamish baptised Amy Rosie by pouring water onto her head three times and then making the sign of the cross on her forehead. He presented her with a Bible, a certificate and a candle as a symbol that Jesus is the Light of the World.
Year 4 Explore International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace is celebrated each year on 21 September. The theme this year was ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambitions for the Global Goals.’
In RS, the children learnt about the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and thought about the action they could take to build peace and to look after our world.
They wrote about the action they could take on a paper link to make a paper chain for action. They also learnt about Malala Yousafzai who is the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Year 4 have also been covering the topic of Peace in their RS lessons and as part of their work, they wrote peace prayers.
A Prayer for Peaceby Isabella
Dear God,Thank you for the peace you give me, my friends and the world.Help me to spread my love and peace.Help me to spread peace all over the world by telling me when I’m wrong.Help me to spread peace at home by saying ‘I will help you, I love you.’Help me to spread peace by helping people, even the people I don’t like.Help me to spread peace by giving things to people.Help me to spread peace by loving and caring for other people.Help me learn to find peace in war.Help me give peace to other people and everyone I meet.Help me in school and make sure I am not mean to other people.Thank you for the world and everyone in it.Amen
Year 6 Visit to Prince’s Drive Baptist Church
As part of their topic of Sacred Places, Year 6 visited Prince’s Drive Baptist Church in Colwyn Bay.
There, Rev'd Beamish showed them the different areas of the church and explained its history and importance for Christians.
After the visit, the pupils wrote about their visit, describing how they felt and their thoughts on the different rooms and features of the church.
Visit to Prince’s Drive Baptist ChurchBy Lily
The name of the Baptist Church is Prince’s Drive Baptist Church because it is on the street of Prince’s Drive. It used to be called Colwyn Bay English Baptist Church. This church is 109 years old.
In this church we had a nice quiet time. We lay on the ground and put on some peaceful music. This made me feel calm and in my own world.
In the church my friendly place was the youth room. It was really nice and colourful and had lots of interesting facts.
I think the best place in the church for believers would be the Sanctuary because you can get baptised and it is the best room for praying. The baptistery is used for people who want to live a good life and be a good person.
I loved the colourful artwork because they are calm and remind me of God because of the pictures of birds.
If the church was removed, I would look after the artwork because it is beautiful and I care about it.
Visit to Prince’s Drive Baptist ChurchBy Rose
The name of the church used to be Colwyn Bay Baptist Church, but they changed it to Prince’s Drive Baptist Church because it was in Prince’s drive. The have recently added a new bit in the church called the Sanctuary.
When we all lay down and listened to music in the Sanctuary, I felt very peaceful and I felt open. The quiet music made me feel like I was gently floating on the clouds.
The lounge was a very friendly place because you can have a chat and pray. The sanctuary was a thoughtful place because you can think about God and thank him. The youth room was a peaceful place because you can sit down and read and think peacefully. The prayer room was extremely peaceful because you can express all your feelings and just relax and pray.
The cross makes me feel a bit sad because Jesus sacrificed his life for us. The baptistry makes me feel happy because you can get rid of all your sins.
The Baptistry is just behind the Communion Table. It is there so you can wash away all your sins and thank God.
