Rydal Penrhos celebrates raft of pupil achievements
Rydal Penrhos is proud to maintain a remarkable tradition of nurturing exceptional talent in the world of aquatic sports.
Over its history the school has seen numerous pupils reach the very highest levels of international competitive sailing, while many others, such as the intrepid adventurer Nick Pochin, have extended their boating skills to explore the globe.
This legacy of excellence has now found a new home, as Rydal Penrhos eagerly anticipates the inauguration of its state-of-the-art sailing and watersports hub in Porth Eirias.
This remarkable facility promises to serve as a springboard for future sailing success in the style of Tom, Fflur and Keira, whose amazing achievements we will detail next.
But first, special congratulations to Harrison Hogan, whose recent triumphs, including a prestigious call-up, will soon feature on our website and social channels.
Year 9 Pupil Tom Sinfield Nominated for Youth Sailor of the Year 2023
Rydal Penrhos is proud to announce that Tom Sinfield, along with his accomplished sailing partner Ben, have been nominated for the prestigious Youth Sailor of the Year 2023 award at the British Yachting Awards.
The pair's sailing journey has been nothing short of spectacular this year. The Port Dinorwic Sailing Club duo had an unforgettable summer, emerging victorious in the RS Tera Pro World Championship and clinching the nationals title in the face of fierce competition.
With two world championship titles and two National Championship titles under their belts, they continue to storm the sailing world. Their most recent accomplishment was a remarkable 13th-place finish at the Endeavour Championship 2023, an invitation-only event featuring a hand-picked guest list from National Champions of select recognised fleets.

Fflur and Keira Selected for Elite Olympic Sailing Program
Two rising stars at our school, Fflur Pierce and Keira Luke, have just embarked on an exciting new journey as they transition from RS Feva to the 29er skiff boat, a significant step towards the elite 49erFX. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that they've been selected for the prestigious Crew4Gold program.
Crew4Gold, a groundbreaking talent search by The British Sailing Team and British Youth Sailing, is on the lookout for young female athletes who have the potential to become Olympic medal-winning 49erFX crews. This initiative is a departure from traditional results-based pathways, emphasizing raw talent and passion.
Fflur and Keira, who fit the criteria for this extraordinary opportunity, will receive top-tier training from world-class coaches and support staff, both on and off the water. The program is made possible through funding from the RYA, Sport England, and UK Sport, in collaboration with the Andrew Simpson Foundation.
The first phase of their journey runs from May to October, featuring all-ability camps in partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation to hone their crewing skills. This promising start opens the door to a future in Olympic sailing and is a testament to their passion and dedication.
This inspiring news showcases the potential of young talent in the sailing world and sets a blueprint for discovering the next generation of world-class athletes. Congratulations to Fflur and Keira!
