Liverpool Trip
Inspiring day out for Sixth Form Artists and Geographers
Rydal Penrhos Sixth Form pupils recently travelled to Liverpool to study the culture and regeneration of the Merseyside city.
At Rydal Penrhos, we believe in enhancing our pupils' educational experiences beyond the classroom. Trips are a key tool in this regard, and already this year pupils have travelled near and far, from Iceland to Xplore Wrexham.
Recently, our Sixth Form Artists and Geographers recently embarked on an exciting trip to Liverpool for a day filled with enriching experiences that will provide a welcome boost to the studies of all involved.
One highlight of the trip for our budding artists was a visit to the Walker Art Gallery, where they immersed themselves in the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize. With over 3500 annual entries, only 70 selected pieces make it to the gallery walls.
Our pupils carefully identified paintings that captivated them, focusing on both technique and subject matter. Taking detailed notes, they later returned to school, translating their firsthand experiences into thoughtful analyses for their upcoming AS submissions.
Across the gallery, pupils explored ‘Photie Man: 50 Years of Tom Wood’, a captivating retrospective on the career of the former Colwyn Bay based teacher and photographer, who documented the streets of Liverpool through his lens.
Seeking common themes with their own work, the Sixth Form pupils returned to the studio the following week to write about their findings for their AS submissions in the summer.
For the Art Department, it has become a tradition to visit Wagamamas for lunch when travelling to Liverpool for the day. It seems safe to say that this tradition is proving as popular as ever!
Demonstrating the potential of cross-curriculum trips, the recent Sixth Form excursion to Liverpool sparked inspiration and deepened our pupils’ appreciation for their chosen areas of study.
What’s more, it also proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable day out for all involved. Thank you to all the pupils and staff involved for contributing to such a successful day.
