Prep and Senior productions approaching
Excitement is building at Rydal Penrhos as the school prepares for its upcoming Prep and Senior drama productions.
With just a few months left until the end of the school year, both the Prep and Senior schools are gearing up for a series of shows that are sure to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
First up is the Prep's production of 'Mystery at Magpie Manor'. This Roaring 20s whodunnit thriller promises to be an evening of intrigue and glamour, as our talented pupils don fringes and feathers and dust off their detective caps. Set to take place on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 June, parents, grandparents, alumni and friends of the school are all invited to witness some fine acting and detective work in action.
Meanwhile, Senior pupils are getting ready for their Junior (Year 7 to 10) production of ‘Henry the Tudor Dude’. This fun, energetic and informative play by Kjartan Poskitt depicts the life of King Henry VIII - England's most outrageous monarch - in a rock-and-roll musical extravaganza. Battles with France, the reformation of the church, umpteen executions and the tale of six wives are all brought to the stage by the Tudor News team, promising a riotous and thoroughly entertaining show.
With just under two months until the three-day run from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 June, preparations are well underway. Casting is complete and pupils have been informed of their roles. The full rehearsal schedule will be emailed to parents soon, with all rehearsals taking place during school hours except for one session.
On the morning of Friday 28 April 2023, Year 7 gathered to practice the main anthem of their new production; namely, ‘The Body Rock’. This fun and addictive tune will surely get stuck in the heads of not just pupils, but parents too. We invite parents and visitors to learn the words for themselves so they can join in on the night!
Rydal Penrhos is offering Senior pupils an opportunity to showcase their artistic skills as part of a Poster Contest for the upcoming production of 'Henry the Tudor Dude'. The contest tasks contestants to submit an A4 size full-colour image with no writing, that is either hand-drawn or computer-generated.
The winning entry, to be judged by the Art department and marketing team, will be used to promote the play. The school is excited to see the unique and imaginative ideas that pupils will bring to the competition. Entries are due by Saturday 20 May, and contestants are encouraged to hand in their designs to Miss Earle.
Our drama studios and performance halls will certainly be hives of activity this term, with ‘Henry the Tudor Dude’ and 'Mystery at Magpie Manor' set to debut. However, this will only be the start; there are plenty of other drama-related activities taking place, and we look forward to sharing much more about all this very soon.
We invite all members of the Rydal Penrhos community to join us for what promises to be an unforgettable series of shows that will add to the rich tradition of dramatic performance at Rydal Penrhos.
