At the heart of Rydal Penrhos
Plans are currently in the works to relocate our Prep to a more suitable building that is at the heart of Rydal Penrhos, which will provide a state-of the-art environment for Prep pupils and staff.
Following thorough consultation with our architects, the decision has been made that the Prep will be relocating to a fully refurbished Hunt House, welcoming our pupils and staff back into the heart of Rydal Penrhos.
Hunt House sits at the centre of our campus and has served as an academic building over many decades since its construction in 1901. Hunt House, originally built as New House, was renamed after James Hunt, who was Senior Master at Rydal School from 1916 to 1949. It is entirely appropriate that our young pupils begin their education in a building steeped in the history of Rydal Penrhos.
This location will allow Prep pupils and staff uninterrupted access to key school facilities such as the Osborn Hall, Sports Complex and of course, all other academic facilities, such as Science laboratories. We will invest in a new purpose-built playground and new walkway to the Sports and Dining Hall, enabling pupils to take full advantage of these key school facilities. This move will also give us the opportunity to relocate the specialist facilities currently within Hunt House to our main buildings. We are also delighted that we will retain full access to our current Forest School within Pwllycrochan Woods.
The move will bring all our pupils and staff together onto one site, manifesting our ethos of one school and one school community. Our proposal for the Prep will deliver a wonderful academic environment that will further enrich the lives of all pupils and staff, enabling our school community to move forward into a bright new era where pupils, parents and staff can continue to grow. This relocation will be led by the two Deputy Principals, Mrs Lucy Davies and Mr Phil Sutton, and our Estates Manager, Mr Richard Smith. We will give parents, staff and pupils the opportunity to share their thoughts as the project progresses. We will ensure that all our key stakeholders have input into this exciting project as we move forward with the plans.
We estimate that the Prep will move into a new and improved Hunt House in September 2024.
