Across the Rydal Penrhos Society
Thank you to Catherine Goodson (nee Evans) (RPS 1997-2004) for letting us have photos of her two beautiful girls.
Catherine sent the photos in as a method of encouraging other Alumni to send information regarding births, deaths and marriages to share with the Rydal Penrhos Society.
Anyone wishing to send in any information can do so by emailing alumni@rydalpenrhos.com.
Peter Wilkinson (RS 1952-57)
Peter’s wife, Barbara, has informed us that Peter passed away on 23 November 2021. Peter was father to Diana, Elizabeth and Emma and grandad to six grandchildren. He was 82 years of age.
Maurice Rushton (RS 1954-59)
Lis Rushton has informed us that her husband Maurice died of leukaemia on 31 December 2021, aged 80. Maurice attended both Rydal Prep School and Rydal School; he was there at the same time as Brian Bulmer (RS 1951-60), who was Lis’ next door neighbour during her childhood, a coincidence that the couple realised when they met on holiday in Devon in 1965. Maurice and Lis were married for 55 years; the pair returned to Rydal Penrhos a few years ago and toured the modern school buildings as part of a school event.
Malcolm Frederick Roper (RS 1950 - 1955)
Malcolm’s daughter Judy has informed us that Malcolm passed away on 8 February 2022.
“It is with great sadness that we write news of the death of Malcolm Roper.
“Dad passed away peacefully last month after his health recently declined following many years bravely battling various conditions including two heart attacks and Parkinson’s Disease.
"These battles didn’t stop him from living his life to the full, continuing to live at home with his wife Grania in their hometown of Kington where he’d run the family pharmacy business until his retirement, and where he raised his own family, giving us a happy and secure upbringing. Going on to become a proud grandfather to three grandchildren who gave him immense pleasure with both their numerous adventures and successes.
"Travelling was another passion, enjoying his international holidays as much as he did his frequent trips back to North Wales recalling his many happy days cycling round the coast and across to Anglesey whenever he could.
"Reading the obituary for Geoffrey Essery, we noted the similarities; as well as an appreciation for the great outdoors, there were fond memories of Hester Norris (with whom our family had a strong friendship) and also a passion for bridge with membership of Kington and Leominster bridge clubs.
“He will be dearly missed by us all.”

Edward Burroughs (RS 1957-62)
Edwards daughter Rose writes "I am sorry to inform you of the death of my father, Edward Burroughs, OR 1957-62. He died on 6 April 2022, aged 78. He was the father of two more ORs - Rosemary Hopkins nee Burroughs, 1989-94, and Timothy Burroughs, 1992-97."
William Arthur Fishwick (RPS 2004-11)
On Friday 11 March 2022 a very large cohort of our alumni joined together with Will's family at St John's, our school church, to remember and celebrate the life of William Fishwick (3/8/93-3/2/22). The service was conducted by the school chaplain, Rev'd Dr Rob Beamish, and was followed by refreshments in the school's Memorial Hall on Queens Drive. Will's father Guy and sister Hayley are composing an obituary to Will which we hope to include in our next newsletter at the end of May, but in honour and loving memory of Will we thought it would be nice to share the order of service from the funeral in its entirety, which was filled with so many heartwarming photographs.
