From a bygone era
And last but not least to finish our sporting section we wished to share with you some images and notes sent to us from Geoff Morris (RS 55-61)
We love the fact Geoff has kept these images and has chosen to share them with us. Geoff’s son Jos realising how much school and sport meant to his dad presented him with one of our rugby shirts, a rugby ball and a lapel badge for his Christmas gift and we feel this says everything there is to say about what school means and sport means to Geoff.
Fun and evocative photos from Geoff Morris (RS 55-61)
Geoff says that each year there used to be 12 prefects at Rydal. This is the 1960 leaving lot. David Moore (RS 54-60) was the head prefect (back row with the fur collar) next to him left is Brian Dunseath (RS 54-60) and RB Kay (RS 51-60) and then to his right is Alfie ( John Bolton) Ridyard. Pith hat pointed finger first row is Tommy Fletcher (RS 55-61), puckered mouth character is Pete Rigg (RS 51-60) and tall boy with cape is Tim Vincent (RS 55-60), Michael Beamond (RS 54-60) and Worrall (RS 54-60) are all there too but difficult to identify due to disguises!
This would be the 60th anniversary of the Rydal 7 a side team in the final of the 1961 Schools competition in Roehampton, London. Back row left to right: Sammy (Bernie) Weller (RS 56-61), Rhys Williams, Johnny Webster, Richard Ashall (RS 55-61)
Front row left to right: Geoff Morris, Tommy Fletcher (RS 55-61) and Howard Pighills (RS 56-61). This team was put together by David Pollard and Frank Richards senior. Final score Llanelli 10 Rydal School 0.
