In a recent channel 4 documentary, Britain’s Most Expensive House, we were delighted to see Jenni Greenwood (RPS 2007-2015), old girl and current director of Greenwood and Willis Design.
Previously, Jenny was the senior designer of the Mayfair Mega-Mansion – a tough job, considering the property is more than twice the size of the Royal Albert Hall.

Another old Rydalian appeared in the long-running BBC documentary series, Great British Train Journeys. Graham Roberts (RS 1952-1961), a local historian, was interviewed by Michael Portillo and explains how Colwyn Bay was taken over by the Ministry of Food during the Second World War.
The programme takes in many local sights as Portillo travels from Rhyl to Anglesey.

Claire Silverwood (PC/RPS 1994-2001) has recently created a new e-commerce site, Welsh Treasures, which brings together a wide range of products from across Wales. The website features paintings, furniture, jewellery, greeting cards, woodwork and much more, all made by Welsh artisans.
Claire said that she wants “to promote local artisans living or working in Wales and to provide them with a platform to see the exquisite products they have designed.”

Margaret Francis (PC 1945-1954)
Margaret Francis (neé Lunt) has sent us some lovely images of her school days at Penrhos College. She has also very kindly sent us some brief notes, which we are using to caption these wonderful photographs…
From left to right: Judith (Hey) Hindley, Gillian (Perry) Shuttleworth and Jean (Sutcliffe) Moor standing on hockey/cricket [three] in their school uniforms – grey costume, grey hat, white blouse and school tie. A uniform worn to every Sunday service.
Margaret (Lunt) Francis in the same attire, standing in the same place. You can see the college building and the school chapel in the background.
From left to right: Jean (Sutcliffe) Moore, Margaret (Lunt) Francis, Gillian (Perry) Shuttleworth and Ruth (Lunt) Allan on the occasion of the school’s centenary in 1980. The school chapel again in the background. Prince Charles unveiled a plaque to commemorate this centenary.
At my house in Penrhyn Bay in July, 1980.
From left to right: Gillian (Perry) Shuttleworth, Jean (Sutcliffe) Moore, Margaret (Lunt) Francis, Marjorie (a.k.a. Midge) Jeacock and Betty (Lewis) Denson.
In my garden in Penrhyn Bay, Gillian (Perry) Shuttleworth and Margaret (Lunt) Francis. We were best friends at Penrhos in those days. This is July, 1980. Gillian was staying with me for the school’s centenary celebrations.
Betty Lewis is now Denson having married for the second time following the death of her first husband. Ruth, my sister, passed away in 2001. Marjorie Jeacock never married and I think that she too has passed away.
Finally, a Teaser…
In the last few months, Joy Amis (PC 1994-1998), a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, got in touch with the school.
She had been looking online for some pictures of Penrhos College, but could not find anything much, other than some purely architectural shots of the old college chapel.
Joy wanted to know: did we have any other images of the school, stored somewhere in our archives?
Well, we are delighted to say that we do – here are some lovely images of Penrhos College that we recently discovered in our archives…
But, this is just a taste of what you could see at our upcoming Founders' Weekend, advertised in the event section. Please, come to that event to see many more archive displays and to take part in all the fun!
We've recently made some exciting changes to our Pre-School provision, which provides exceptional opportunities for the younger members of the school community before they formally begin their journey through education.
In recognition of this, we created a special brochure with all the information you need to know regarding these significant improvements.
