Some creative writing examples for Year 8 during the spring term at Rydal Penrhos.
During lockdown Year 8 have been working on their creative writing skills based on the principle that by using just a few well-chosen literary techniques your narrative writing can sparkle.
The idea for this project is borrowed (stolen?) from Jamie Oliver’s book ‘5 Ingredients’ which is based on the premise that “Using five ingredients, cleverly combined, you'll conjure up THE most exciting food”. Well, the same is true of writing!
In each masterclass the students were introduced to five new complimentary methods (we ended calling them ‘ingredients’) and asked to write their next paragraph in a short story all about a storm.
We also covered some narrative theory and looked at the typical architecture of short stories before the students then set about drafting their work. On the following pages you will find Keira, Megan, Finlay and Ceylin’s work. Enjoy!
